This policy was recently added by the company where I work:
"Searches at work:
There is no general or specific expectation of privacy in the workplace of XXXXX. ...All employees and all of the following areas: bags, purses, briefcases, backpacks, lunch boxes, desk, file cabinet, closet , computer files, lockers and personal vehicles are subject to search at any time. ...Searches may be done on a random basis.....from time to time and without prior announcement, inspections or searches may be made of anyone entering, leaving or on the premises of property of XXXXX.
No employee will be physically forced to submit to a search, however, an employee who refuses to submit to search will face disciplinary action, up to and possibly including termination of employment."
This is from a small company in the United States of America- the one I work for and I am sure it is not the only one with this policy.
The corporatocracy is emerging.
